diy: travel photo tumbler cover

while on one of my trips to michael's i saw a traveler photo tumbler on clearance and i thought why not, i'm a sucker the clearance aisle. earlier that day i also made a trip to target and obviously had to stop by the dollar section and found superman stickers. so of course i had to buy a few of the sticker packets. when i saw them i instantly thought of youtuber jim chapman's wall that he used in past videos. i thought the idea was so neat and wanted to do something similar, but superman. and when i got the tumbler at michael's a light bulb went on. so here is a my take on decorating a traveler tumbler inspired by this.

stickers, stickers, stickers everywhere.

what you'll need:

• traveler photo mug
• loads of stickers (one packet will be just fine)
• white sheet of paper (or you can use the paper insert that comes in the tumbler)
• scissors

how to:

• if you don't want to use the insert that comes with the tumbler, trace the shape of the insert to a white sheet of paper. you should also do this regardless, just in case you want to make more inserts (beware you will)!
• once you have your insert, start placing your stickers randomly. i randomly placed the bigger ones throughout the sheet of paper. then i filled in the blanks with the smaller ones. keep pilling on the stickers until you can no longer see the insert. 
• use the scissors to trim off any excess sticker that might have gone of the edge of the insert. 
• tip: if you have access to a laminater, you can laminate the insert. i go to lakeshore, which has locations across the country. (i highly suggest you laminate the inserts if you can cause it'll protect it if waters seeps through the seal.)
• once your insert is done, just insert it back into the tumbler, seal it, and tada! its ready for travel.

i might have gone a little crazy and made a few more inserts, cause if i learned anything from rachel zoe its options, options, options. i used old calendars and scrap-booking paper to more inserts. i just used the tracing of the original insert and used it to trace on the paper. so now i have multiple options to fit any mood. beware, you'll get a little addicted!

diy: easy headband holder.

after a week haitus...im back! so here's this weeks sunday funday project!

i've always worn headbands, its come to the point where i feel naked if i leave the house without one. so over the years i've collected a ton of headbands but nowhere to put them. so when brother recently finished the oatmeal a light bulb went up  when i saw the empty container. so here is my version of making an easy headband container.

what you'll need... (plus a sharpie or paint)

                  what you'll need:

• an empty oatmeal container 
• spray paint (color of your choice)
• a black sharpie or paint to decorate (i don't have a steady hand so opted for using a sharpie)
• glitter spray paint (to add some pizzazz)
• spray can of glaze (not totally necessary but it'll leave a nice finish and will protect the paint.) 

how to:

• empty container entirely. make sure there isn't any oatmeal left.
• when spray painting the container make sure to do it over newspaper or on top of cardboard. i opened up empty boxes of cereal and laid them out.
• evenly spray the outside of the contained until you can no longer see larry (apparently that's the name of the quaker on the boxes. and all these years i thought it was ben franklin.) i gave it another coat so it looked even and there wouldn't be any drips. spray the inside as well. 
• let it dry before spraying the glitter on the container. 
• use a sharpie to draw swirls all of the container (or any design of your choice). i practiced on paper before drawing on the actual container. let the ink set and dry properly before the next step. 
• spray on the glaze. make sure to spray evenly so the glaze doesn't drip which will effect the swirls if you're using a sharpie (the ink will start to drip too!).
• let that sit and dry entirely. and voila you now have someplace to store your headbands!
• the inside of the container can be used to store elastic headbands or any other hair accessories  but make sure its completely clean before using it as storage.

diy: homemade humble birthday cards

birthday cards can be pretty pricey. i'm looking at you papyrus. so why not save yourself a couple of bucks and make your own.

all you'll need is:

• scrap booking paper, any design. pick something that fits the person's personality. (tip: i buy mine at michael's when they're on sale for cheap; $.12 compared to $.59.)
• scrap of colored paper.
• regular scissors and craft scissors.
• glue and tape.
• ruler.
• pens to write your greetings. 
• glitter glue (if you have any)
• an old picture of whoever's birthday it is. the more embarrassing the better. (i picked an old school picture of my now 15 year old cousin in which she does not look pleased. )

how to:

• cut your card-stock paper into a rectangle. since the picture i used was 4x6in, my rectangle was 7x12in. size can very depending on how big you want the card or how big the picture is. 
• fold the rectangle in half ('hamburger style'), so it makes a 6x7in card. 
• using the scrap of color paper make a thought bubble with a clever/witty saying. (my card was late so i wrote 'you do know this card is late, right?!')
• use a strand of tape to tape the thought bubble to the picture. i taped them together from behind, not directly on top of the picture.
• as decoration i cut a strand of the scrap paper using craft scissors to taped it to the picture. since half of the caption was outside the picture i thought the decorative strap would even things out. 
• now glue or tape the picture (w/ thought bubble and decorative strand) to the center of the card.
• then use glitter glue to decorate the strand. to continue decorating the remainder of the card, cut out a variety of small shapes to decorate the rest of the card. i used yellow triangles to decorate the other side of the card. i scattered them and then proceeded to glue away. 
• now using white or colored paper cut a smaller rectangle that will go on the inside of the card for the greeting. i used a 'aztec' craft scissor to do so.  
• write a greeting on the card: happy birthday!, congrats on being born! , etc. (tip: if you don't like your penmanship you can write the greeting on a word document and then print it out.) 
• glue the greeting into the center of the inside of the card.
• cut more triangles or any shape and glue along the side of the cards to decorate.
• one everything is glued/taped on,  use glitter glue to tastefully decorate the card. i drew dots along the strip and decorated some of the triangles along one side. 
• and voila you have a homemade humble birthday card just as good of better than your average store bought card!

this idea would be great for any occasion. picking the most ridiculous picture of them and reminding them of their not so greatest moments. it'll keep them humble when they're being showered with gifts and being praised. aha! and this is how i got the name for this project. i plan on using this idea again come graduation season!
